The proposed design for the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) Headquarters and Convention Center aims to establish a vibrant and engaging civic landmark within the green belt between Ramna Park and Suhrawardy Udyan. Drawing inspiration from the site’s natural setting, historical context, and surrounding urban fabric, the concept integrates the existing IEB building with a new structure through a central urban court. This space acts as a connector between the parks and the architecture, encouraging activity, interaction, and visual continuity across the site.
Architecturally, the design embraces simple, human-scaled forms, low-rise massing, terraces, and gradual spatial transitions that invite users into the complex. A transparent glass façade reflects the surrounding greenery and sky, enhancing lightness and openness while framing key views. Public spaces such as roof gardens, outdoor cafés, and multi-level plazas support social, cultural, and recreational activities.
Sustainability remains a core priority, with climate-responsive façades, maximized outdoor areas, natural ventilation, and shaded landscape zones reducing heat gain and energy consumption. Together, these elements create an environmentally efficient, socially engaging, and visually coherent urban destination.
