The proposed design for the National Housing Authority, Bangladesh (NHA) reflects the organization’s mission to ensure “shelter for all” by creating a vibrant and sculptural urban complex in Segunbagicha, adjacent to the National Eidgah, Supreme Court, and major government institutions. The design responds to the site’s context and construction history, using building orientation and massing to strengthen connections with surrounding open spaces and important civic landmarks.
A central courtyard between the tower blocks and multipurpose hall anchors the composition, creating an inviting urban space. Green plazas, water features, and terraced landscapes provide a therapeutic buffer from the busy roadway, while the placement of ancillary structures ensures comfortable separation from nearby buildings. Internally, a central atrium, interconnected levels, and two dynamic bridges promote collaboration and transparency.
Climate responsiveness is integral to the design. Narrow tower forms, elevated massing, and generous southern exposure enhance daylight and ventilation, while maximizing outdoor public spaces reduces reliance on climate-controlled areas and improves overall energy performance.
